Lyon completed the regular-season series sweep against Missouri Baptist with a 72-65 win in the second game of the home-and-home series

The Lyon College men’s basketball team completed the regular-season series sweep against Missouri Baptist with a 72-65 victory on Saturday afternoon inside Becknell Gymnasium. The Scots improved to 6-4 (5-2 American Midwest Conference), while MBU fell to 9-7 (5-3 AMC).

The Scots erased an early 10-5 deficit and knotted the score at 14-14 with 8:19 left in the first half on a jumper by Faris Verlasevic. The two teams kept the score close the rest of the half as neither side led by more than four points. Hunter Daley broke a 26-26 tie with a three-point play before the Spartans responded with a pair of free throws in their next possession. The Scots added a free throw late in the first half by Cole Anderson and took a 30-28 lead over the Spartans at the break.

The Scots began to distance themselves from the Spartans midway through the second half as a three-pointer by Grant Patterson broke a 46-46 tie and opened up an 11-4 run by Lyon. Lyon extended its lead to 68-57 with just under a minute remaining after a layup by Ray Price (pictured). The Spartans made things interesting late and pulled back within six, but the Scots went on the close out the game with a pair of free throws each by Price and Patterson.

Price led all scorers with a career-high 24 points, while Anderson and Patterson ended with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Scots will continue their home stand with a non-conference game against Ecclesia College on Monday night at 6 p.m.
