Mountain View Yellowjackets split a pair of conference games Thursday night versus the Newport Greyhounds

Thursday night at Mountain View High School, the Mountain View Yellowjackets split a pair of conference games with the Newport Greyhounds.

In the senior boys game, Newport used an 11-0 run that started late in the first quarter to turn a 7-6 deficit into a 17-7 lead, a lead that they would not relinquish.

Mountain View would close the gap to four in the fourth quarter, but the Greyhounds would hold off a late rally and win 49-38 over the Yellowjackets.

Senior Brayden Scribner led Mountain View with 16 points, Beck Morrow added seven points, Kaedn Henderson and Elijah Carlton each added six points.

Newport was led by Christopher Reynolds with 15 points, Jairus Dean 13 points, and Jerry Woods with eight points.  Mountain View dropped to 4-11 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

During the senior girls game, the Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets used a big first half to take a 42-6 halftime lead and coast to a 58-20 victory over the Lady Greyhounds.

Chaelann Vickers led Mountain View with 12 points, Josie Storey 10 points, Kennedy Holland had nine points, Emry Johnson and Aubrey Isbell each added eight points, Emily Fletcher earned six points.

Newport was led by Jakayla Dixon with 12 points.

Mountain View Lady ‘Jackets improved to 12-2 overall and 11-0 in conference play.
