Valley View and Southside battled defensively in a low-scoring affair Monday to decide who would be in control of the number-two seed in the 4A-3 conference and the inside to track to automatic bid to the 4A regional tournament, with the Lady Blazers coming out on top of the Lady Southerners, 38-32.
The opening quarter set the pace for the entire game with both teams playing strong defense early, allowing no easy shots, and the Lady Blazers led 9-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The pace quickened in the second quarter with Olivia Allen scoring nine points in the period and giving the Lady Southerners a 21-18 lead at the break.
The third quarter saw the Southerners once again struggle from the field, adding only 3 field goals in the quarter and saw their lead evaporate as Valley View added 13 to take a three-point lead into the final quarter.
Valley View managed to close out the game in the final quarter holding the Southerners seven points and sealing the number-two seed and a bid to the regionals.
Oliva Allen had 13 points, five steals, and two rebounds. Kamie Jenkins scored eight points, had nine rebounds, and two blocks. Brett Gardner earned six points, one rebound, and one assist. Alexa Blevins scored four points. Callie Robbins had three points, three rebounds, and two steals.
