Two charged in Stone County Circuit Court involving drugs

gavel-2020-22

Two individuals in Stone County have been arrested and now face drug charges.

In the arrest affidavit, Kayla N. Callahan, 32, who is employed with a Mountain View retail store, is accused of taking a billfold from inside the store that contained $150 and then leaving the store. About 30 minutes later, Callahan came back to the store, returned the wallet, and according to the affidavit, quickly left.

Court info says Stone County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Dammon McGilton later spotted Callahan and pulled her over on a warrant for her arrest in a theft case. A passenger in the vehicle, Kevin L. Day, 38, was arrested for being a parole absconder. A vehicle search turned up several drug paraphernalia items and the money stolen from the wallet, the arrest affidavit said.

Callahan and Day were both taken to jail and each charged with possession of drug paraphernalia items to use methamphetamine. In addition, the affidavit said Callahan became very uncooperative at the jail and allegedly struck a jail matron.

For that, Callahan is charged with an additional felony: second-degree battery on a detention officer.

Callahan’s bond was set at $10,000, and Day’s was placed at $5,000.
