The Mountain View Yellowjackets escaped with a 49-44 victory over the Bald Knob Bulldogs in the opening round of the Class 2-3A District Tournament Tuesday night at Mountain View High School.
The number-eight seeded Yellowjackets jumped out to an early 18-10 first quarter as Senior Brayden Scribner scored 14 points in the opening frame.
The number-nine seeded Bulldogs would close the gap in the second quarter, as Mountain View’s offense went on a five-minute scoring drought.
Mountain View’s Elijah Carlton would get a putback slam to give the Yellowjackets a brief three-point lead, but Bald Knob’s Shane Freeman would hit a three from half court to tie the game at 24 going into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs offense quickly jumped out to a six-point lead, however, Yellowjackets Senior Kaedn Henderson hit two three-pointers to tie the score, the Yellowjackets would then get buckets by Senior Bryce Baird and Carlton to give Mountain View a 37-32 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Mountain View would secure the victory in the fourth quarter from the free-throw line, as Beck Morrow would go 6-6 and Henderson 3-4 from the charity stripe.
Scribner led the Yellowjackets with 14 points, Henderson 11 points, Carlton 11 points, and 15 rebounds, Baird had six points, and Morrow earned six points as Mountain View improves to 6-13 overall on the season and advances to play Cave City Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at Cave City.
Freeman led Bald Knob with 16 points, Braden Davis had 10 points, Ethan Nixon and Michael Knight each scored six points, and Travis Kersey had five points, as Bald Knob’s season came to an end.
