Two suspects in fairly recent cases involving fatal shootings in Independence County are still awaiting their trial dates at the Independence County Detention Center.

In mid-July of 2020, Andrew Milton, 34, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a north Batesville convenience store. Authorities allege Robert Casey Evans (pictured above, left) 46, was the shooter. At the time, Batesville Police detectives reported that Evans acknowledged the shooting occurred during an argument over money and drugs. Evans was taken into custody within 20 minutes of the shooting. He is in the detention center on a $1 million cash-only bond. For more on this story, click here.

The second shooting occurred Jan. 25, 2021, at a residence in the 1300 block of Rounds Road. Cody Thomas Weathers (pictured above, right), 28, is accused by sheriff deputies of shooting Adam Lowry, 29, a man sharing the residence with Weathers.

Authorities said Weathers fled northward to Springfield, Mo. after the shooting. He was brought back to Independence County to stand trial in the shooting. He, too, is also in the Independence County Detention Center with a bond set at $750,000. For more in this story, click here.
