Mountain View advances in Class 3A State Tournament

The Mountain View Lady Yellowjackets used a strong second quarter to beat the Lakeside Lady Beavers 57-41 and advance to the second round of the Class 3A State Tournament at Clinton High School.

Both teams got off to a slow offensive start with neither team scoring in the first two and half minutes of the game, but Mountain View would go on a 14-4 run to start the game and take an early lead.

Juniors Josie Storey and Emry Johnson would hit threes during the run and they also got two pointers from Storey, Aubrey Isbell and Chaelann Vickers.

Lakeside closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Mountain View would a strong second quarter from Storey to take control of the game outscoring Lakeside 24-10 in the quarter and take a 49-27 halftime lead.

Storey scored 14 points in the quarter including a four-point play.

Lakeside would try to keep the game in reach but never cut the lead within 15 as Mountain View advances with the victory.

Storey led the offense with 25 points, Isbell added 10 points, Vickers 8 points and six steals, Johnson added seven points, and Kennedy Holland five points and seven rebounds as Mountain View improves to 21-3 on the season.

Lakeside was led by E’necia Sykes with 14 points and Hope Johnson added eight points as Lakeside’s season ended with a 14-7 record.

Mountain View advances to the quarterfinal round and will play the winner of Valley Springs and Lamar on Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. at Clinton High School.
