The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz took to the hardwood Friday morning in the second round of the state tournament, facing the Mansfield Lady Tigers.
The Lady Katz pressure defense forced six turnovers and shot well from the perimeter to get out to a 21-8 first-quarter lead.
The lead only increased from there, as Melbourne scored 26 points in the second to take a 47-12 lead into halftime.
The lead never got below 35, and the sportsmanship clock rolled in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Katz took the win 68-26.
With the win, Melbourne improves to 31-1 overall and advances to their fourth consecutive state semifinal; they will play at 10:00 a.m. Monday against the winner of Friday’s game between Quitman and Fordyce.
