Mrs. Peggie Cooper Whitener of Bald Knob, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at the age of 81.
She was born Jan. 22, 1940, at Russell, the daughter of Aubrey and Mattie (Rains) Duncan.
Mrs. Whitener was a 1958 graduate of Newport High School. She worked as a customer service representative for Entergy, retiring after 27 years of service. Following her retirement, she began working for the Jackson County Health Department.
Mrs. Whitener was a staunch Republican, who loved to watch Fox News.
She enjoyed traveling with her friends of Tunica, spending time with her family, and her dog, Lennon.
Mrs. Whitener was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Whitener; her first husband, and father of her children, Bobby Cooper; one daughter, Tammie (Cooper) Foster; three sisters, Reba Gorchik, Nora Lee Wilson, and Betty Harper; and her parents.
She is survived by one son, Michael Wayne Cooper of Bald Knob; one daughter, Debbie Cooper Brumley of Monroe, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Ryan Foster, Travis Foster, Cooper McDonald, Samantha Qualls and husband, Michael, and David Breckenridge and wife, Briana; five great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Monday at Walnut Grove Cemetery, with Mr. Jimmy Cooper officiating.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Mark Wilson, Milton Wilson, Danny Doyle, Ryan Foster, Michael Qualls, and Cooper McDonald.
