Deadline to recommend former student-athletes is May 26, 2021

Nominations are now being accepted for the 39th Class of the Lyon College Athletic Hall of Fame, said Kevin Jenkins, Lyon’s director of athletics.

Friends of Lyon College are urged to go online to nominate former student-athletes or anyone who has been a long-time contributor to the athletics programs at Lyon College before the deadline of May 26, 2021. There are currently 147 individual members and two teams in the Hall of Fame.

The 2021 induction banquet will be held late next fall.

Each year the Lyon Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee chooses a small group of exemplary past athletes for induction.

The criteria for nomination include:

1. The candidate is expected to be a letterman of Lyon or Arkansas College. Only in an exceptional case of long and full-time service to a sports field would a non-letterman or non-alumnus be considered.

2. The candidate must have been out of college for a minimum of ten years.

3. The candidate must have outstanding or exceptional performance in one or more sports while attending Lyon.

4. The candidate must have achieved a high level of sportsmanship while a student.

5. The candidate shall be judged primarily on athletic achievement as a student and has demonstrated interest, service, or support of Lyon College, its athletics programs, or within his/her community since leaving college.

The Class of 2020 inductees included JT Baker, Nate Read, David Higgs, Norris Weintz, and the 1982-83 & 1983-84 men’s basketball teams. Click here for a wrap-up of the 2020 Hall of Fame event.
