UPDATE, April 27, 2021, 8:40 a.m.: Sheriff Stephens reports Baney has been found and is safe. He was located in Illinois.
A Silver Alert has been issued for an 80-year-old Springfield, Mo. man who was apparently in the Independence County area over the weekend.
According to Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens, Ernest Eugene Baney (pictured) was reported missing Saturday by a relative in Springfield. The niece of Baney told Stephens that Baney had left home the night before, April 23, and had been speaking to his son on the phone when Baney’s phone apparently went dead. Baney had last told his son before the phone disconnected that he was at the “race car museum” in Batesville.
Stephens said in the incident report that he attempted to locate Baney without success. Baney has been entered in the Arkansas Crime Information Center database.
Baney was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black jacket, a (possibly) plaid shirt, and was driving a black 2016 Dodge pickup with a black camper shell. The truck will have two dents in the back and might have leaking fluids. The tag on the Dodge should be a Missouri plate: OKDJ52.
