The Batesville Pioneers defeated the Nettleton Raiders in a recent 5A East conference doubleheader 9-0, 6-0 at Dianne House Lamberth Field.
Game 1 starter junior Gage Wood went the distance allowing 1 hit, 0 walks, and 18 strikeouts — a new school record for strikeouts. The Kansas State commit has 118 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched with an ERA of .48 on the year.
The offense was led by senior Gavan Smart going 2-4 with 2 RBIs joining him was senior Taylor Daugherty going 2-4, junior Jack Lanier 2-4 with 2 RBIs, and Gage Wood 2-3 1 RBI.
Game 2 starter senior Matt Walmsley continued to have a dominant senior year for the Pioneers on the mound. Walmsley moved to 8-1 with a .90 ERA. Joining him on the mound in game 2 was senior Jace Daugherty with 4 IP, 0 hits, and 7 strikeouts. The offense was again lead by Wood 3-4, Lanier 2-4, and Smart 2-4
The Pioneers moved to 18-8 overall and 10-4 in 5A East play and will be the #3 seed from the East in the state tournament next Thursday in Jonesboro.
