A 19-year-old is dead after a high-speed chase through Hardy Wednesday night.

KAIT reports Brendan Charlet of Pierre Part, Louisana, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after leading law enforcement on a chase from Highland and into Hardy.

The station said the incident began when police were called to an Ash Flat business where Charlet was reportedly acting “erratically.” After leaving before officers arrived, a Highland Police officer saw Charlet’s vehicle traveling at a “high rate of speed,” and the pursuit began.

Charlet’s truck rammed a Hardy police vehicle during the pursuit and ended up in a ditch at the intersection of Highways 62 and 63, the station reported. When the Hardy officer heard a “bang” come from the vehicle, he then checked and discovered the suspect deceased inside the truck from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, KAIT’s report said.
