J.O. (Billy Joe) Vickers, 93, of Mammoth Springs departed this life on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. He was born Aug. 10, 1927, to J.R. Vickers and Ethel Gertrude Blackburn.
Billy Joe was a member of Murphy’s Corner Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran who was known to enjoy a good cigar. He was a talented musician who enjoyed playing the guitar and the harmonica. Cryptogram puzzles were a challenge he enjoyed taking on. He loved the Lord and believed that family was always first.
He was preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Dona Vickers; his son, Billy Joe Vickers Jr.; two brothers and two grandsons.
He is survived by his son, A. Douglas Vickers of Mammoth Springs; daughters, Carolyn Haycook (Harvey) of Lonoke, Marcia Mercer of Newport, and JoAnn Engle (Mike) of Newark; brothers-in-law, Austin King (Dot) of Couch, Missouri, Willis King (Carolyn) of El Paso; sisters-in-law, Sandy King of Mountain Home, Una Jo Vickers of Newport; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be Friday, June 4, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Gracelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
