In a special meeting last week, the Independence County Quorum Court approved a low bid for the construction of the Big Creek bridge.
The county engineer for the project, Miller-Newell of Newport, recommended the low bid from Seagraves Construction Company of Pocahontas. The amount of the bid was $1,582,440.
Miller-Newell noted that Seagraves is already under contract for the Center Grove Road bridge, a project that, given the amount of rain received, is progressing at a satisfying pace. The Newport engineering firm also noted Seagraves has completed a bridge on Johnson Hollow Road in the past.
“Given Seagraves’ past performances, we believe the county will be happy with the outcome for this project,” Miller-Newell stated.
