Drug charges have been filed against two men in Stone County Circuit Court with one placed on a $50,000 bond and the other on a $25,000 bond.

According to the arrest affidavit, on Friday, June 4, a West Plains, Mo., man was stopped by Stone County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dammon McGilton near St. James in the southern part of Stone County for speeding (71 in a 55 mph zone) and for not wearing a seat belt.

The court information said before the vehicle came to a stop, it appeared the driver was hiding items. A computer check of the driver’s license showed the driver, identified as David S. Harris Jr., 43, had an outstanding felony warrant out of Howell County, Mo., for gun and drug charges.

Harris was placed under arrest on the warrant at that point, and according to the affidavit, a search of the vehicle allegedly yielded a baggie of methamphetamine, some paraphernalia, and a loaded .380-caliber handgun in a zipper pouch within reach of the driver.

Harris was transported to jail, and the vehicle towed. He was charged with three felonies: possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms. His bond was set at $25,000.

In the other case, court information said a man was taken into custody after allegedly fleeing from an Arkansas State Trooper trying to initiate a traffic stop last Saturday, June 5.

Trooper Jonathan Arnold said Harrison M. Tovey, 31, was speeding on a gravel road when the trooper attempted to stop Tovey’s vehicle. Arnold said Tovey fled and eventually turned into a private drive with Tovey and Tovey’s female passenger then fleeing on foot.

Arnold said he searched the property for the two, and when he got back, he found Tovey in the landowner’s pickup.

Tovey told Arnold he was having a medical problem, and the trooper noted Tovey was breathing heavily. EMS was called in to check Tovey, who was then cleared to be taken to jail.

While there, he was allegedly found in possession of some pills containing fentanyl and also Alprazolam. Tovey was charged in Stone County Circuit Court with four drug-related felonies including possession charges and furnishing a controlled substance into a detention facility.

His bond was set at $50,000.

There was no information in the court documents regarding the whereabouts of Tovey’s female passenger.
