Harold Gates, 83, of Newport departed this life on Friday, June 11, 2021.
He was born Feb. 22, 1938, to George Evans Gates and Mildred (Cole) Gates.
Harold was a charter member of the Grace Freewill Baptist Church. He loved selling cars, going fishing, playing his guitar, and telling stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, R.E. Gates; and his sister, Peggy Louise Gates.
Harold is survived by his wife (the love of his life) for over 60 years, Shirley Gates; two sons, Rocky Gates (Dawn) of Brooklyn, Ricky Gates (Misty) of Jonesboro; daughter, Crystal Drennin (Shane) of Tuckerman; brother, Bobby Gates (Janas) of Newport; two sisters, Wilma Evans of Newport, Brenda Taylor (Dub) of Memphis; six grandchildren, Colby Gates of Colorado, Logan Loftis of Conway, Tess Gates of Nashville, TN, Shane Gates of Paragould, Ty Gates of Paragould, and Lucky Gates of Tuckerman; one great-grandchild, Indi Gates of Colorado. The family would like to thank Harold’s caregiver, Dane Newby, and Elite Hospice for all the loving care that they provided.
Funeral services will be 10:00 Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Diaz with Pastor, John Neal officiating, interment will follow in Gracelawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, June 14, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 at the funeral home for the public.
