Through a confidential source, Batesville Police officials recently became aware of a large amount of methamphetamine that was to be delivered to sell in Batesville and the surrounding area, according to information filed in Independence County Circuit Court.
BPD Narcotics Officer Dillon Sallas noted the delivery was scheduled for last week to a room at a Batesville motel. In addition to Batesville Police, officers from the Independence County Sheriff’s Department, the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, and the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force assisted in the surveillance on the motel area on June 25.
That evening, court records note the officers observed a Chevrolet Colorado pull into the parking area of the motel and witnessed a male emerge from the vehicle carrying a plastic sack that appeared to be full.
Believing this was the illegal drug delivery, officers stopped the man and found the bag to be full of a white crystalline substance, suspected to be meth, according to the case’s arrest affidavit. Officials noted that altogether there were two kilos — or approximately 4.41 pounds of suspected meth.
Taken into custody was Yosafat Guido, 32, of Port Saint Joe, Fla. He is facing a felony charge of trafficking a controlled substance, court documents report.
Guido posted his $75,000 bond and was released this week from the Independence County Jail.
