A sex offender who had recently asked to move from his Cabot residence to Stone County received a denial from officials.
But in court records, authorities allege Elliott Gene Gilbert, 45, moved to the Fox area anyway and then failed to register his new address with the Stone County Sex Offender Coordinator.
That’s a felony.
The arrest affidavit did state Gilbert left a phone recording that he was living in Stone County, but he failed to register his new address in Fox with the proper authority.
According to the court record, Gilbert was stopped by authorities in Stone County in late June. The affidavit says Gilbert was driving a truck that was not registered to him and was not documented on his sex offender registry. It also noted he was cited for driving on a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt.
He has not yet been taken into custody as of this posting. On Thursday morning, Aug. 5, Stone County Sheriff’s Deputy Dammon McGilton told White River Now’s Gary Bridgman that he has information Gilbert is likely in another state. (Note: A previous version of this story noted Gilbert had been arrested during the traffic stop. The story has been corrected to reflect Gilbert is not yet in custody.)
The audio recording of Gilbert stating to his parole officer he had moved to Stone County will be made part of the investigative file, the court record said.
Gilbert has over five “failure to appear” and numerous evading arrest counts as well as a history of fleeing, according to the affidavit. He also has a criminal history in seven different states.
He is now charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a Class C felony.
His bond is set at $50,000.
