A Pontiac, Michigan man, Adam T. Short, 41, died as a result of an incident on Lake Norfork Saturday evening, Aug. 14, according to a release from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Deputy Jason Bradley was on park patrol at approximately 5:45 p.m. and was flagged down by citizens at Cranfield Park saying there was a water emergency. Deputy Bradley saw a man lying on his back with bystanders performing CPR on him. Deputy Bradley took over CPR compressions until EMS personnel from Baxter Regional Medical Center arrived, the release said.

Witnesses indicated Short had been trying to swim across the lake and began having difficulty. A Mountain Home man, Brandon Garner, acted quickly, entered the water, and swam out to the man to help him. The man was brought to the shore by Garner, and CPR was initiated as he was not breathing. The victim was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center but did not survive the incident, the release noted.

The Baxter County Coroner’s Office took possession of the body, which is being sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office in Little Rock for autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
