A source in the Stone County Sheriff’s Department said, to their knowledge, the investigation into misused funds in their office by an ex-chief deputy sheriff is still underway by the state.
Ex-Chief Deputy Sheriff Zach Alexander is the center of the investigation.
Apparently, the investigation involves around $77,000 in personal supplies and other personal items purchased over a period of time by Alexander.
Our previous story said Alexander had apparently sent a check for $25,000 as partial reimbursement, but it was refused by the state, saying their investigation is not complete.
One of our sources said a “pause” in the state investigation may mean federal prosecutors are looking at the case.
