A longtime public servant has announced his candidacy for Independence County Judge.

Batesville Fire Chief Brent Gleghorn, a lifelong Independence County resident, will run for the seat being that will be vacated by current County Judge Robert Griffin.

Griffin announced Wednesday he will run for District 63 State Rep. Stu Smith’s position in 2022 after Smith announced Tuesday he will not seek a third term.

Gleghorn says the decision to run is one he does not take lightly, and he decided to be a candidate after serious consideration and discussions with his family.

“I believe it’s time to further my service to the county by entering this race,” Gleghorn said.

Gleghorn says Independence County residents have been good to him and his family, and he looks forward to having the opportunity to work closely with all elected officials for the betterment of the whole county.

Gleghorn’s statement is below:

After serious consideration and discussions with family, I have decided to run for Independence County Judge. Obviously, this is one of the biggest decisions in my life. A decision I do not take lightly.  I am a lifelong resident of Independence County and after 44 years as a public servant, I believe it is time for me to further my service to the county by entering into this race.

Independence County has been good to myself and to my family. I look forward to potentially having the opportunity to work closely with any and all elected officials for the betterment of the county as a whole.
