Independence County Judge Robert Griffin has announced his intention to seek the office of State Representative for District 63 in the 2022 State Republican Primary.

State Rep. Stu Smith, the current representative for the district, announced on Tuesday that he will not seek a third term. (Click here for that story.)

“It has been my great honor to serve almost 11 years as Independence County Judge,” Griffin said in a statement announcing his candidacy. “I now ask for your support and vote to allow me to serve you as District 63 State Representative in the Arkansas Legislature.”

Griffin praised Smith and his time in office.

“Stu Smith has been a great advocate for Independence County in the Arkansas House of Representatives. I have promised to carry on legislation of interest he has begun and work to bring into law those that are in the best interest of our citizens, businesses, municipalities, and county government here at home,” said Griffin.

The county judge said one reason it’s important for the district to have a strong voice representing the district is “…to protect against the Orwellian designs coming from Washington D.C.”

“The rights of our citizens must be protected first and foremost. I have illustrated as County Judge that fiscal responsibility is an important duty. Government simply cannot spend what it doesn’t have,” he said in the statement.

“I already have a working knowledge and familiarity of the leadership and committees at the Capitol. I can work effectively for you beginning on day one. Above all, I will remain available to hear your concerns and respond to your questions with truth and honesty. I humbly ask for your vote in the Republican Primary in 2022,” the judge said.

Stu Smith has been a great advocate for Independence County in the Arkansas House of Representatives. I have promised to carry on legislation of interest he has begun and work to bring into law those that are in the best interest of our citizens, businesses, municipalities, and county government here at home.

We are in a time that it is very important to have a strong voice in the State House to protect against the Orwellian designs coming from Washington D.C. The rights of our citizens must be protected first and foremost. I have illustrated as County Judge that fiscal responsibility is an important duty. Government simply cannot spend what it doesn’t have.

I have made a practice to keep my legislative body informed to a high degree. Transparency is a key to the success of legislative bodies. As your State Representative, I will be diligent in protecting individual freedoms and RIGHTS as guaranteed in the Constitution.

I already have a working knowledge and familiarity of the leadership and committees at the Capitol. I can work effectively for you beginning on day one. Above all, I will remain available to hear your concerns and respond to your questions with truth and honesty. I humbly ask for your vote in the Republican Primary in 2022.
