The Mountain View Yellowjackets finished non-conference action Friday night

The Mountain View Yellowjackets finished the non-conference portion of their season with a 34-14 victory over the Poyen Indians on Homecoming night at Yellowjacket Stadium in Mountain View.

Mountain View scored on their third play from scrimmage when Senior Elijah Carlton ran 51 yards for a touchdown.

Dustin Irwin passed to Kenner Gray for the two-point conversion and Mountain View held an early 8-0 lead.

After the Yellowjacket defense forced a turnover on downs on Poyen’s first possession, Mountain View proceeded to go on a nine-play, 90-yard drive. The drive was capped off with a one-yard touchdown run by CJ Rose to give Mountain View a 14-0 lead.

Poyen would score on their next drive to cut the Yellowjacket lead to 14-6.  On the ensuing kickoff, Trampas Stubbs received the kick and took it 62 yards for a touchdown to give Mountain View a 20-6 halftime lead.

Mountain View forced another turnover on downs to start the second half.  Mountain View offense then seized control of the game with a two-yard touchdown run by Stubbs.
The Yellowjackets converted on the two-point conversion on a run by Irwin giving Mountain View a 28-6 lead midway thru the third quarter.
Poyen scored early in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard touchdown run by Colton Lowe to close the gap to 28-14.
Mountain View finished the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Carlton to Gray late in the fourth quarter.
The Yellowjackets’ offense totaled 338 yards.
Carlton led the way with 156 yards on 16 carries rushing for one touchdown, he was 3-3 passing for 61 yards and one passing touchdown.
Rose carried nine times for 72 yards and one touchdown, Stubbs 22 yards on six carries and one touchdown, he also had a 62-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Gray had one reception for 36 yards, and one touchdown.
Defensively Mountain View held Poyen to 275 yards of total offense.
Landon Goins and Carlton led with 12 tackles each, Trace Tinkle had 10 tackles, Stubbs nine tackles, Josh Shipman eight tackles including two sacks, and Jace Tinkle seven tackles.
The Yellowjackets won their third straight game to improve to 4-1 on the season.  Poyen dropped to 2-2.
Next week Mountain View begins their conference season as they travel to defending state champions Harding Academy Wildcats.
