A shooting at a residence behind the former Cushman school campus left one man injured on Sunday and the apparent shooter yet to be located.

A press release from the Independence County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to the shooting at the residence, and after arriving, found the injured man, identified as Aaron Kent, 25, lying on the grounds of the old school campus with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

Kent told officers he was shot by a male suspect he identified as “J. Maness,” the release said.

Authorities later discovered the suspect was Jacob Maness, 28, and as of Monday morning, he had not been located. A BOLO (Be On the Look Out) has been issued for Maness, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office said this is believed to be an isolated incident, and “…the information we have received is the suspect has left our area,” the release said.
