Independence County Treasurer Bob Treadway’s report at the Monday evening quorum court meeting will bring some positive economic news.
Just over $317,000 came into the county treasury in September, according to the treasurer’s monthly report. Treadway had projected $267,600.
The amount collected is a 5.75 percent increase over September 2020. And it is also a 9.74 percent increase year-to-date over 2020.
These would be sales from July that were sent to the state in August and returned to the county in September.
Treadway told White River Now’s Gary Bridgman Wednesday the money being brought in by the one-cent countywide sales tax is an indicator that the local economy is doing well.
The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville sales tax and the sales tax for the fire departments each brought in $150,659. Each fire department in the county received $9,642 in September. For the year-to-date, each Independence County fire department has received $87,630.
The Independence County Quorum Court will meet Monday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Jess B. Carpenter Building, 368 E. Main St., in Batesville.
