Friday night at Salem High School, the Mountain View Yellowjackets struggled to get anything going offensively in a 21-12 loss to the Salem Greyhounds.
Mountain View could not take advantage of 5 Salem turnovers as they were limited to 282 yards of total offense.
Elijah Carlton scored on a 46-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter to give the Yellowjackets an early 6-0 after the two-point conversion failed.
In the second quarter, Salem scored on a 45-yard touchdown pass from Dakota Jackson to Dalton Steward.
Ignacio Lopez added the extra point to give Salem a 7-6 halftime lead. The Yellowjackets took a 12-7 lead in the third quarter on a 66-yard touchdown run from Carlton.
On Salem’s next possession Elijah Romine would score on a 14-yard touchdown run, Lopez’s extra point gave the Greyhounds a 14-12 lead.
Salem put the game out of reach late in the fourth quarter as Romine scored on a 10-yard run. Lopez made it a two-score game with his third extra point to give Salem the win 21-12.
Carlton led the Yellowjacket offense with 185 yards on 21 carries. Drew Shelton led the defense with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, Carlton had nine tackles, Trampas Stubbs added eight tackles and an interception, while Jace Tinkle added an interception.
Salem was led by Jackson who passed for 284 yards and a touchdown, and Romine who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns.
Mountain View falls to 5-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in conference play. While Salem improves to 5-3 and 1-3 in the conference.
Next week the Yellowjackets return home to face the Riverview Raiders.
