Hazel McDonald Hearton Guy was born in Newport, Arkansas on January 16, 1937, to the late Rev. Ollie McDonald and the late Janet Curry Wilson. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jessie and Myrtle Hawthorne Curry, and her brother James Roosevelt (Nancy) Wilson. Hazel leaves to cherish her memory: Frank Wilson, Jr.; Billy Joe (Ann) Wilson; Jimmy Lee (Kathy) Wilson; Emma Sue Wilson; and Josephine (Robert) Wilson Thompson.
Hazel’s love for her children was a constant in her life. They are Mr. Curtis Claude Hearton; Carolyn Hearton (Michael) McKnight; Herman (Judy) Hearton; Marylin Hearton; Calvin (Ganice) Hearton Jr.; Tony Ray Hearton; Rickey (Yvonne) Hearton; Terry Hearton; Wendell (Valerie) Hearton and Robert Hearton.
Hazel’s love extended beyond her children to include a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and community children in need.
Hazel’s intimate relationship with the Lord began at a young age. Up to her final days, she constantly spoke about the Lord and shared her favorite gospel songs. She always ended up singing and shouting in her home.
Hazel loved to go “treasure hunting” at her favorite stores. She has decorated many homes out of love. She loved picking greens from neighborhood “glory gardens” and growing her roses. She was a consummate soul food chef, pouring her love into dish. She made the best caramel cakes and sweet potato pies. She even fed the birds and cats. No one went hungry around Hazel.
Hazel’s laugh was infectious. She would laugh so hard and so much, it brought tears to her eyes. She lived her life by showing God’s love to everyone she encountered.
