The Southside senior boys fell to valley view Monday night in conference action 54-39. The Southerners, without leading scorer Ayden Cuzzort, lost second-leading scorer Jacob Longo early in the 1st quarter and the Southerners struggled from the field hitting 9 field goals on the night. The first quarter ended in a 10-10 tie and the Southerners trailed by only 2 at the half 21-19.

Valley View hit 4-3 pointers in the 3rd quarter extending into their lead and never trailed again. The Southerners fall to 6-3 on the season, 1-1 in conference play.

Lady Southerners move to 10-1 with win over Valley View

It was a matchup of conference favorites Tuesday night at Southside as the Lady Blazers visited the Lady Southerners. Valley view started with a 4-2 lead before the Lady Southerners rattled off 10 points in a row and never looked back in the 54-43 win.

The opening quarter saw Brett Gardner go 3-4 from 3 point range and the Lady Southerners race out to a 17-7 lead. The pace for both teams slowed in the 2nd quarter with Valley View outscoring the Lady Southerners 10-7 and cutting the Southerner lead to 7 at the half. 

The third quarter was back and forth as the two teams traded baskets with Gardner scoring 8 and Olivia Allen adding 4 as the Southerners added 2 to their lead 36-27. The final quarter saw a lot of time spent at the charity stripe as the Valley View forced the Southerners to the line 14 times in hopes of a comeback, the Southerner went 8-14 from the line in the final quarter and sealed the 54-43 win. The Southerners held strong on the boards with 22 rebounds, led by Kamie Jenkins with 10. The Southerners were 7-17(41%) from behind the arc
