June (Woodruff) Chisam of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, January 3, 2022, at the age of 89. She was born November 7, 1932, in Grubbs, the daughter of Norman and Donnie Mae (Byrd) Woodruff.
On March 5, 1948, she was married to Denver Jackson Chisam, and together they spent 49 years.
She co-owned Hall & Monday Shoe Store along with her friend, Emma Kathryn Ashley, around 36 years until her retirement. She loved to work in her yard and flower beds, keeping them immaculate. She had a great love of family, especially doting upon her nieces and nephews.
She joined the First Baptist Church on March 22, 1959, and was an active and devoted member for over 60 years. She served her church as a Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the care and homebound ministry. This strong-willed, caring lady loved the Lord and serving others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Jackson Chisam on March 27, 1997; one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne Preston Woodruff and Doris Woodruff; one sister and brother-in-law, Mollie Woodruff Hogan and Jack Hogan, Sr.; one nephew, Dan W. Hogan; and her parents.
She is survived by her niece, Jabetta Woodruff Barnhart and husband, Donnie, of North Little Rock; two nephews, Denver Wayne “Denny” Woodruff of Gulf Port, Mississippi, and Jack K. Hogan, Jr., of West Memphis; great-nieces and nephew, Taylor, Tanner, and Tara Barnhart; and a lifetime of friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her friend, Jean Evans.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Friday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Kyler Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, 10:00 a.m. until service.
