Laverne Odom Jones departed this life on January 7, 2022.  Born on January 31, 1935, in Auvergne, Arkansas, she spent most of her life in Jacksonport, Arkansas.  She worked for Victor Metal for several years back in the 1950s and was a leave replacement for the Postmaster in Jacksonport until the 1970’s when she became the Postmaster.  She served in that capacity for twenty years.  She was very proud of her accomplishments with the postal service.  Her hard work resulted in the post office moving up several classifications, as well as building a new building.

She spent many years visiting the nursing homes in Newport.  Each year her son Ron brought her hundreds of beads from Mardi Gras in New Orleans.  She gave them to residents of both nursing homes, which brought many smiles to the residents.

She met the love of her life “Bill” in 1954 and spent a wonderful life with him until his death in May of 2020.

She was a member of Jacksonport Baptist Church.  She joined in the 1940s and served in many different capacities.  Her role as a Sunday school teacher for the younger members had a positive impact on many generations.  She loved her church and her church family; she was true to her faith till the end.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her father, Tom Odom; her mother, Estella Jones Odom; Sisters, Stella Jones and Ivon Gibbs; brothers, Eugene Odom, Robert Odom, and Emmet (Skipper) Jeffery.

She is survived by her son, Ron of New Orleans, Louisiana; her sister, Mary Frances Olsen (Larry) of Woodward, Iowa; Brothers-in-law, Douglas Jones (Mickie) of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Freeman Jones (Chris) of St. Croix, California; Sisters-in-law, Nina Jones of Hartford, Michigan, Vivian Sue Jeffery of Emerson, Arkansas and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Special acknowledgments to those caregivers who were angels unaware; Linda Esquie, Susie Pierce, Lisa Burt, Diane Pratt, Gale Lynn Clinksdale, Anna Bowen, and Patricia Deville.  Also, Special acknowledgments to Bruce Kleski.
