Here’s Coach Fred Denison’s recap of Southside Southerners bowling action on Wednesday from the High School Bowling Bakers Tournament at Hijinx Lanes in Jonesboro.
The tournament format consisted of each team bowling eight Bakers games (Five bowlers alternate bowling frames on each game: Bowler 1 gets frames 1 & 6, Bowler 2 gets frames 2 & 7, Bowler 3 gets frames 3 & 8, Bowler 4 gets frames 4 & 9, and Bowler 5 gets frames 5 & 10).
Total pinfall from all eight games determined the placing. Twenty-nine teams participated in the tournament.

Denison: “Very proud of both our teams. The girls were very consistent and most of their games were above our season average. Winning their division was a great accomplishment and will hopefully boost their confidence. The boys struggled at times but still managed to shoot a total that was right around our average. The third-place finish was very good and the guys feel like we can score even better if we stay focused and apply what we learned today. Overall, it was good for us to compete in that type of environment on lanes we aren’t accustomed to and still perform the way we did. Our state tournament is at this same location so hopefully, we learned some things that will help us if we are fortunate enough to make it that far.”
Next match: Southside at the Charlie Jeffery/Joyce Vickery High School Bowling Tournament at Hollywood Bowl in Batesville on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 3:30.
