Here’s Coach Fred Denison’s recap of Southside Southerner bowling at the 4A-3A East Conference Bowling Tournament at AllFam Bowl in Cabot on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

The tournament format consisted of three games of six-person singles play plus four Bakers games.  Total pinfall determined the order of finish.  Thirteen schools participated and the top five schools advanced to state tournament play.

Boys Results:  (These are the top five teams that earned a berth into the state tournament.  They will be joined by the top five teams from the 4A-3A West Conference:  Gentry, Jessieville, Lamar, Ozark, and Elkins)

1.  Westside Consolidated – 3880 pins
2.  Valley View – 3785
3.  Southside – 3741
4.  Brookland – 3295
5.  Mayflower – 3214

Girls Results: (These are the top five teams that earned a berth into the state tournament.  They will be joined by the top five teams from the 4A-3A West Conference:  Gentry, Lamar, Clarksville, Elkins, and Bauxite)

1.  Southside – 2892 pins
(Note:  Third consecutive conference championship for the Lady Southerners)
2.  Valley View – 2728
3.  CAC – 2648
4.  Harrisburg – 2516
5.  Stuttgart – 2497

All-Conference Team:  Based on each individual’s total pinfall during the three games of singles play.  The top 15 percent in the boy’s division and the top 15 percent in the girl’s division received this honor.  There were 84 bowlers in the boy’s division and 73 bowlers in the girl’s division.

From Southside:
Cayden Bowren (8th place with a total score of 563)
Tyler Jones (10th place with a total score of 533)
Faith Sharp (3rd place with a total score of 429)
B J Williams (7th place with a total score of 409)
Breanna Rea (11th place with a total score of 398)

Antonio Ciamaricone missed all-conference recognition by five pins (his total was 508), and Emma Patterson missed all-conference recognition by two pins (her total was 396).

Comments from Coach Denison:  Really proud of how well both of our teams performed today.  The boys team score was over 200 pins higher than last year’s score but it just wasn’t enough to overtake the top two teams today who both bowled very well themselves.  The girls just keep on putting down consistently good scores in both their singles and Bakers games, and it was good enough for their third straight conference title.  The boys and girls both realize that they are good enough to finish at or near the top at the state tournament, but it won’t be easy since we will be bowling at a house where the teams closest to us in scoring (Westside and Valley View) use as their home bowling center and have a good knowledge of the lanes and their patterns.  We’ve had a couple of opportunities this season to bowl in that house and we did pretty well.  Ultimately, we will have to stay focused and execute at our best, but I feel like our kids will be ready for the challenge and I know they are looking forward to competing for a state title.

Next match:  4A-3A State Bowling Tournament at Hijinx Lanes in Jonesboro on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m.
