James Cleven Harper, 84, a lifelong resident of Harrisburg departed this life on Thursday ~ February 4, 2022, at St. Bernard Medical Hospital in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born April 26, 1937, in Harrisburg, Arkansas the son of James Perry and Lois (Cole) Harper.
His parents preceded him in death and two sons: Jay Harper and Cleven Harper, one daughter, Lisa Byrd, two brothers, and three sisters: Mable French, Dorothy Ingersoll, and Carolyn Loggins.
He finished school with a GED and served his country four years in the United States Marines. He married Carrie Roberts on April 13, 1959, and they have enjoyed 62 years of marriage. He was a Poinsett County Employee for several years, of the Baptist belief, enjoyed fishing, loved his hound dogs, and spent time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie of the home in Harrisburg, one son, Lance Harper of Jonesboro, three brothers: Larry Harper of Jonesboro, Johnny Harper of Harrisburg, and Ricky Harper of West Plains, MO, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A date, time, and place will be announced at a later time for “Celebration of Life” following Cremation. Pastor B. J. Chatman will conduct the service.
