During Tuesday’s meeting of the Batesville City Council, the group passed a resolution concerning economic development.
The resolution said the council agreed with the mayor to accept grant money on behalf of the city for helping fund construction of a proposed access road. The additional access road is needed for an industry located in the park that is working on an expansion, Mayor Rick Elumbaugh said.
The council also:
- Received the first of a series of reports from Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Crystal Johnson on the economic impact of the poultry industry in Batesville and Independence County. Johnson noted the impact of Peco adds up to hundreds of millions of dollars in the region as well as the employment of thousands of workers. Johnson also noted the company is continuing to invest in environmental technology, odor remediation, and has been in compliance with state and national guidelines.
- Approved an ordinance for an application for a private club permit to Club Las Catrinas of Batesville which will be located at 2735 Byers Street.
- Heard a report from Jonathan Abbott on the 2021 White River Wonderland. Abbott told the council 50,000 vehicles made the tour through the festive lights.
