Wayne Lloyd of Grubbs, Arkansas departed this life on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the age of 73. He was born March 6, 1948, in Newport, the son of George Washington, Jr., and Phyllis Margaret (Brown) Lloyd.
He was a 1966 graduate of Grubbs High School. Following high school, he joined United States Army serving as a Medic in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969.
He married to Gloria June Overfield on May 1, 1970, and together they enjoyed 51 years, raised their son, and worked to build their future.
He began working for Victor Metal, which later became Ever Corporation, for 19 years working his way to foreman. He treasured his time and friendships spent at Victor Metal and considered the people he worked with as a family. They continued to enjoy yearly reunions even after the Ever Corporation closed. In 1990, he joined his brother-in-law, Roger Overfield, opening Overfield and Lloyd Irrigation and Well Drilling and Repair until they retired in 2010. He also was a woodworker with Grubbs Antiques and Refinishing for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many hours teaching his son, Ryan to hunt deer, duck, squirrel, and rabbit and to run trotlines on the Cache River, always catching enough to stock the freezer. Together he and Ryan would also do all of the cleaning and processing for all of their hunting and fishing. Mr. Lloyd was a member of the Grubbs Volunteer Fire Department and was always happy to lend his fish frying talents to the Annual Fish Fry Fundraisers for the Grubbs and Weiner Fire Departments.
He will forever be remembered for his generous heart and his great love of people and especially for the love and devotion he had for his family.
He was a member of the Grubbs Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria June Lloyd of the home; one son, Ryan Lloyd and wife, Heather, of Melbourne, Arkansas; three brothers, Robert Lloyd and wife, Sue Ellen, of Bono, Keith Lloyd and wife, Peggy, of Grubbs, and Phillip Lloyd and wife, Pam, of Batesville; two grandchildren, Rachel and Hannah Claxton; six nephews; two nieces; and a lifetime of friends and family.
Graveside services are at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Ballew’s Chapel Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held, and a meal provided by the Lloyd family, on March 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Grubbs Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.
