Bill Walmsley, the chairman of the Independence County Library Board, reported to the county quorum court earlier this week that the library is in sound condition financially.

Walmsley also reported Vanessa Adams, the head librarian, recently accepted a position with another library and is no longer employed as the county librarian.

Walmsley said the board is now in the process of finding a qualified librarian, which could take some time. During the interim, the board suggested appointing the library’s bookkeeper, Carlene Morrison, to serve in the place of Adams, and appointing the library’s office manager, Angela Dale, to serve as Morrison’s assistant.

The board also recommended increasing their pay by 20 percent.

The court voted its approval of the board’s efforts and suggestions.
