Darrel Melton of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at the age of 84. He was born June 4, 1937, in Magness, the son of Bynum and Helen Ada (Sherril) Melton.
He was a 1955 graduate of Newport High School. On August 30, 1958, he was married to Wanda Norris, and together they enjoyed 63 years.
He was a United States Navy veteran, stationed in Japan. Mr. Melton was a volunteer Veteran’s van driver, taking veterans to the VA Hospital.
He worked at Victor Metals, where he was a supervisor. Mr. Melton was a member of the Airbase Church of Christ.
He had a great love of family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Stark on April 20, 2013; one brother, Dale Melton; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wanda (Norris) Melton of the home; one son, Darrel “Bud” Melton, Jr., and wife, Sarah of Evansville, Indiana; two daughters, Debbie Stark and husband, Steve of Newport, and Cindy Honey and husband, Ty of Newport; three grandchildren, Stephanie Stark Jones and husband, Tommy, Justin Honey and wife, Hanna, and Taylor Honey and fiancé, Tyler Shelton; five great-grandchildren, Maddie Jones, Landon Jones, Beau Honey, Tate Honey, and Macie Jones; a special nephew and niece, Kevin Melton of Memphis, and Kim Warren and husband, Billy Max of Newport; and a lifetime of friends.
Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Watson Cemetery.
