Lyon College Baseball Update: Scots split two games

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Freed-Hardeman Lions scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning on Tuesday afternoon at Fred Wann Field and came from behind to beat the Lyon College Scots 10-5 in baseball action in Batesville.

The Scots (10-6) were led by Troy Strack and Alan West who were both 2-for-5 at the plate with one run scored each and Strack added a run batted in. Joe Weatherford was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Zane Wallace was 2-for-2. Lyon College had five runs on 10 hits and committed one error.

Freed-Hardeman (12-4) had 10 runs on 12 hits.

Strack scored on a balk by the Lions pitcher, then Alec White hit a sacrifice grounder to score West and Weatherford scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 Scots lead. White singled in the third inning to score Weatherford to make it 4-0.

After Freed-Hardeman scored a run in the top of the sixth, Strack singled in pinch-runner Kaden Doan for a 5-1 Lyon College lead, but the Lions scored six run six runs on four hits to take a 7-5 advantage. Freed-Hardeman added three more runs in the top of the ninth inning.

The Scots will be on the road to Park City, Kansas to take on the Park Pirates in a Thursday double-header starting at 12 p.m. (noon) and a double-header on Friday starting at 10 a.m.

On Monday afternoon, the Scots defeated the 12th-ranked Loyola University-New Orleans Wolf Pack 12-2 in eight innings.

Joe Weatherford led the Scots at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance and he scored two runs. Kaden Doan scored twice for Lyon College pinch-running for Logan Doody, who was 1-for-4 at the plate. Troy Strack was 1-for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Alan West was the winning pitcher, going seven innings and giving up only two runs off of five hits.

After the Wolf Pack took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Weatherford singled in Strack to tie the game and Alec White doubled in Derek Underwood to put the Scots up 2-1.

Loyola tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the second inning, but in the bottom of the fifth, Weatherford and Hakeem Yatim scored on consecutive passed balls and Strack walked to score Doan to make it 5-2.

The Scots got two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, Zach Ellis singled in CC Burrup and Weatherford. And in the bottom of the seventh inning, West hit a solo homer to make it 8-2. Logan McLevain Singled to score Doan in the bottom of the eighth and Tristan Buschow scored on a wild pitch.

But the night belonged to Clayton Aleya, who in his first at-bat ever for the varsity, doubled to the gap and scored McLevain and Cameron Gordon to put the Scots up 12-2 and end the game.
