UPDATE, Tuesday, March 8, 2022, 9:30 a.m.: The National Weather Service in Little Rock confirmed Monday night on its Facebook page that its survey team has determined that EF-2 tornado damage occurred from Sage (Izard County) to near Evening Shade (Sharp County).

Storms moved across large sections of the area last night, spurring damage and causing some injuries, authorities report.

According to a release from Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts, a trained storm spotter employed with the sheriff’s department spotted a tornado on the ground in the Bear Creek Road area in Evening Shade around 8 p.m Sunday.

Counts said a short time later, Sharp County dispatch received numerous 911 calls regarding tornado damage and injuries.

A home near the Sharp/Izard County line was reported blown into the road and completely destroyed. According to the release from Counts, four residents inside the home were injured.

The sheriff’s department said several other homes in the area sustained damage from the high winds and downed trees. The release also indicated one more injury from the storm, but all injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.

Stone County Judge Stacey Avey said Monday the western part of Stone County caught the brunt of the storms.

The judge was in the Flag and Timbo areas today seeing what damage was done by the suspected tornadoes.

Avey said there were mostly trees twisted to the ground and power lines knocked out at Flag. At Timbo, some barns and other outbuildings were knocked down, trees were pulled up from their roots or twisted to the ground, and power lines were knocked out of commission, the judge reported.

At one time, there were over 2,000 without power in the county. Several were still without power on Monday.

Judge Avey said he thinks the tornado touched down at Flag, and again at Timbo before bouncing over to Sage where damage accumulated for an eight-mile stretch.
