When a devastating tornado hit the home of two of Batesville High School Charter coaches in early March, Pioneer Nation stepped in to help any way they could.

Carrie Eoff coaches in the women’s volleyball and basketball programs, and next year, she will be the head coach of the junior high girl’s basketball program. Her husband, Garrett, is an assistant in boy’s high school basketball and head softball coach.

They live north of Evening Shade where a tornado was on the ground for several miles on the night of March 6, and at one point, struck the Eoff residence.

Members of Pioneer Nation, including Coach Tanya Haigwood, Athletic Director Coach Dave King, Communications Director Megan Renihan, Superintendent Dr. Michael Hester, Coach Tim Howard, and members of the volleyball, football, and basketball teams assisted the Eoffs after the storm.

“They helped us pack our house up, move everything to a storage unit, clean the house up, clean the yard,” said Carrie Eoff.

Carrie said a lot of good people also pitched in to help, starting with her neighbors in Evening Shade and Ash Flat. She also credited Centennial Bank, Walmart, The Home Depot, and other individuals and groups.

“I don’t know what I would do without the community because the community is just awesome,” she said.

No one was injured, but there was considerable damage. Help was there, Carrie said, when they really needed it.

“Some helped that we didn’t even know,” she said. “This area and Pioneer Nation are made up of a lot of really good people. We are so proud we work and live here.”
