Behind strong pitching performances and timely hitting, the Batesville Pioneer baseball team swept a doubleheader Tuesday at West Memphis.

Twelve was a good number for the Pioneers in the first game as they scored 12 runs on 12 hits.

Gage Wood pitched the first three innings for Batesville and did not allow a hit or run.

Cale Glasgow and Boston Hall did the bullpen work, closing out the game in relief.

The Pioneers scored eight runs in the fourth inning with Mark Brissey, Thomas Morgan, Wes Lange, and Tyas Rush batting in runs.

Lange, Morgan, Wood, and Jack Lanier, all had multiple-hit games with Morgan going 3 for 4.

Batesville was able to use their running game effectively, stealing eight bases in the game. It was also an error-free game for the Pioneers.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Pioneers prevailed 13 to 0.

Caleb Teague was sharp on the mound, going five innings and giving up just one hit and no runs for the victory. At the plate, he was outstanding as well, getting three hits in three trips to the plate.

Lanier also had a multiple-hit game, and Gage Wood hit the “big fly,” a home run in the third inning.
