Another area school has announced a head coaching position change for its football program.

When Batesville Pioneers Head Football Coach Dave King announced his retirement last week after 26 years in that position, he told White River Now’s Gary Bridgman that the school would hire from within the coaching staff for his replacement. (Click here for that story from White River Now.)

This afternoon, Batesville High School Charter announced Pioneers Assistant Coach Ryan Morrow is now the new head football coach.

A 2006 Pioneer graduate, Morrow earned a degree in physical education, health, and leisure at Henderson State University at Arkadelphia. He came back to coach the offensive line for his alma mater in 2017 where, during his high school days, he played for the Pioneer football team under Coach King.

“It’s been a dream of mine since I was 18 years old to be just like my mentor, Coach King, and have the opportunity to come back and coach with him,” said Morrow. “The last few years have been nothing short of amazing. I got to sit next to my coach, my mentor, and my friend, and develop into the coach, husband, father, and man that I am today. Now getting the opportunity to lead the Pioneers into the future, I’m going to do my best to make him proud.”

Morrow said the program goals remain the same:  to win conference championships and then compete for a state championship. He said he and his staff will lead a team of which the community and school can be proud.

Morrow (pictured above with his family) and his wife, Candace, are the proud parents of three children — Ruby, Eli, and Brock.

BHSC said the team was informed of the hiring Wednesday afternoon.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Ryan becoming the next head football coach at BHS,” said King. “He along with his staff will do an outstanding job in leading the Pioneers.”
