An Independence County Sheriff’s Deputy who died in the line of duty last year will be remembered in June by a Washington state-based group of motorcyclists.
The End of Watch Ride to Remember is a group of motorcycle riders that escorts a 40-foot trailer across the country to honor fallen officers from the prior year.
On June 24, the End of Watch Ride to Remember will ride to the Independence County Sheriff’s Department offices to honor Deputy Frank Ramirez.
Ramirez was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 18, 2021, after a one-vehicle accident on Arkansas Highway 14.
The ride is scheduled to arrive at 9 a.m. at the offices which are located at 1750 Meyers Street in Batesville.
According to a release from Beyond the Call of Duty, the organization that arranges the event, End of Watch Ride to Remember recognizes police officers – throughout the nation – who died while in the line of duty.
The event name is based on an officer’s “End of Watch.” An “End of Watch Call” or “Last Radio Call” is a ceremony in which a police dispatcher issues a final call to a fallen officer over the radio, followed by silence. All officers in that department hear the call, and observe the silence, remembering their fallen brother or sister.
Last year, the End of Watch Ride honored 339 fallen officers across the country.
In 2022, the ride will honor an unprecedented 600 fallen officers killed in the line of duty in 2021.
