A Pleasant Plains woman died Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle wreck near the intersection of Highway 157 and Highway 167.
According to the preliminary fatality report from the Arkansas State Police, the victim, Leatrice Strickland, 89, of Pleasant Plains, was a passenger in a Nissan Sentra that was stopped on Highway 157 while waiting to turn southbound on Highway 167.
The report said as the Nissan was turning onto the highway, the vehicle failed to yield to a Cadillac traveling northbound in the outside lane on Highway 167. According to the state police, the Cadillac struck the driver’s side fender of the Nissan, causing it to end up in a ditch on the east side of Highway 167.
After the collision, the Cadillac traveled in a northwest direction and came to a stop facing west across both southbound lanes of Highway 167.
Both the driver of the Nissan and the driver of the Cadillac were injured and taken to the hospital, state police said.
The report said the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time of the accident — around 12:49 p.m.
