Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens says his department’s profile will be raised at this year’s Independence County Fair after being alerted of an alleged online threat made earlier this week.
In a release posted on the department’s Facebook page, Stephens said deputies were contacted by a female subject on May 29 who said she was advised of a possible threat that would occur on Monday, May 30, 2022, at the Independence County Fair.
Yesterday was the official opening of the fair.
According to the sheriff, the female complainant did not receive this threat directly and was unable to provide a full name or any information that would permit the sheriff’s deputies to locate a person of interest.
In his release, Stephens said he has strengthened security on the fairground during fair week. Activities run through this Saturday.
Stephens said if you have any information regarding the online threat that was made, to contact his office at (870) 793-8838, or email contact@independencesheriff.org.
