The polls will be open today for various Republican runoff elections stemming from the May 24 statewide primaries.

While there are no runoffs for statewide office, there are a few local races of note.

The runoff for Senate District 22 has State Representative John Payton of Wilburn against State Sen. James Sturch of Batesville.

Independence County Judge Robert Griffin and Jackson County Justice Wayne Long will meet in the runoff for State Representative District 39.

And Stone County voters will decide the Republican nomination for Sheriff in a runoff between Brandon Long and Nathan Masterson while Izard County voters will determine the winner in the runoff for Izard County Judge between incumbent Eric Smith and challenger Paul Womack.

Registered voters who can participate in the primary runoffs include those who voted in the May 24 GOP primary and those who did not vote in the May 24 Democratic primary. Polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
