At tonight’s Independence County Quorum Court meeting, justices will hear that sales tax collections for the year are showing a six percent increase over last year.
April 2022 sales, sent to the state in May, with the county’s share returned in June, show the county treasurer projected $283,000 in sales, which was around $53,000 less than the $336,000 actually collected.
The taxes collected for UACCB and the county fire departments were just over $166,000 each. Each fire department that receives a “full share” has received just over $61,000 through June 30.
Justices will also consider an ordinance to revise charges for commercial roll-off containers serviced by the county’s solid waste department. According to the ordinance, the revised changes for Class 4 Commercial Roll-Off Containers Charges will be:
- $150 for the initial delivery and set-up
- $125 for subsequent resets and pick-up
- $75 for year-round users pick-up and reset
- $56.61 per ton disposal charge
- $35 a week rental after the first week
And quorum court members will also be asked to approve a budget supplement for the prosecuting attorney for supplies, and say “yes” to a resolution concerning a grant for the Salado Community Center. Salado residents are joining together to rejuvenate the historic building which first served as the school in Salado.
The Independence County Quorum Court will meet at 6 p.m. at the Jess B. Carpenter Building, 368 E. Main St., in Batesville.
