In the last two weeks, the number of COVID-19 cases in Arkansas has increased by 54 percent.
Medical experts say it is due to the subvariant of omicron that is now in the state and growing.
Despite the increase in the number of cases, the Arkansas Department of Health’s Dr. Jennifer Dillaha told Little Rock television station KTHV that this new subvariant doesn’t seem to be as severe as the Delta variant from last summer.
Dillaha said the number of cases in Arkansas increased by over 1,500 yesterday — the greatest jump in new cases since the first of the year.
Over 330 patients are currently hospitalized, and the state’s death toll, since the beginning, now stands at 11,610.
