A man facing several arrest warrants, allegedly ran from and then fought with a deputy before he was taken into custody, according to Independence County Circuit Court documents.

It all began Aug. 8 on Warden Road when Independence County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Ade was patrolling the area and noticed a motorcycle stopped in the road and being handled by a male operator. As Ade passed the cycle, he took note of the license number and ran it through the Arkansas Crime Information Center. Return information showed the license expired in 2014 and also did not match the motorcycle to which the plate was affixed, the court information said.

After Ade activated his blue lights to conduct a traffic stop, the cycle, operated by Martin Lee Pizanowski (pictured below), 45, of Cave City, sped off and the chase was on, at times in excess of 80 miles per hour, according to the court documents.

Covering several county roads and a period of time on Highway 167, the chase finally ended on Northwoods Lane when Pizanowski laid the motorcycle on its side and began to flee on foot. Deputy Ade chased Pizanowski until he was caught in a wooded area, according to Pizanowski’s arrest affidavit.

The affidavit said Pizanowski resisted arrest, and during the scuffle, Ade’s body camera and radio mic were knocked off. Finally, Ade was able to place one hand restraint on Pizanowski and take him out of the woods where responding deputies came to assist Ade, according to the affidavit.

Further checking found that Pizanowski had several active arrest warrants including a State of Arkansas Board of Parole warrant. The suspect was placed into a squad car, and Deputy Ade went back into the woods where the scuffle took place to retrieve his body camera and radio mic. While searching, Ade also located a plastic container with two small bags of a green, vegetable-like substance, a plastic baggie containing a crystalline substance that later tested positive as methamphetamine, and a glass smoking device containing burnt residue.

Pizanowski has been charged with: possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, fictitious tags, fleeing in a vehicle, and resisting arrest. He is also charged under the habitual offender law. Pizanowski’s bond has been set at $10,000.
